Abstract:Soybean is one of the important legume crops of India and has value because of edible oil and high protein content. It is susceptible to a very wide range of viruses. Several virus disease are not known to occur in nature but have been induced under experimental conditions. Although viruses cause many diseases in soybean a very few of these are of economic importance to the soybean crop; the most widespread and important being soybean mosaic virus. Recently, a mosaic disease to the extent of 60 to 80 per cent was evident on BR-1 soybean cultivar in the trials conducted by All India Co-ordinated Project on Soybean, M.A.U., Parbhani. The virus causing mosaic disease have been identified and was found to be cowpea mild mottle virus. The present studies were undertaken to identify the source of resistance in soybean to this virus
