Abstract:The relative resistance of the soyabean genotypes PI 229358, PI 227687, PI 171451, Kirby and Bragg and to larvae of the noctuids Pseudoplusia includens [Chrysodeixis includens] and Anticarsia gemmatalis was studied in the laboratory at 26°C, 70% RH and LD 14:10. PI 229358 was most resistant to C. includens, causing an increase in development time, a decrease in pupal wieght and a decrease in survival. Development time was not significantly increased for larvae reared on PI 171451 or PI 227687 compared with Bragg. Pupal weights with PI 171451 and PI 227687 were reduced in comparison to those with Bragg and Kirby. Development time of larvae of A. gemmatalis was also significantly increased on PI 229358. Larvae reared on Kirby or PI 171451 also had longer development time than those on Bragg or PI 227687. It is concluded that PI 229358 was more resistant to both species than PI 227687.
