Abstract:Notes on the identification and symptoms of damage on soyabeans of the pyralid Elasmopalpus lignosellus are given based on a field study in Alabama. Chlorpyrifos at 0.5-2.0 lbs/acre is the only currently recommended granular insecticide for control of E. lignosellus in soyabeans. Adequate soil moisture is the best defence against the pest and early planting no-till cultivation and irrigation are helpful in areas prone to infestation. Four to 6 undamaged plants per row-foot are needed for optimal yields.
