Abstract:A total of 6775 soyabean and 3713 mung bean (Vigna radiata) accessions was screened for resistance to Ophiomyia phaseoli (Tryon), O. centrosematis (de Meij.) and Melanagromyza sojae (Zhnt.) in mass screening trials carried out in Taiwan over 2 years. As no resistant accessions were detected in this preliminary screening, the least affected entries (16 soyabean and 28 mung bean) were screened for a second and third time at 6 locations. Four soyabean and 3 mung bean accessions were found to be the least affected at all locations. The soyabean accessions were highly resistant and the mung bean accessions moderately resistant to all 3 pest species, and it is proposed to use these accessions to breed resistance into commercial varieties of the crops with high yield potential
