Research Specialist position in Molecular Genetics of
Drought Tolerance
A Research Specialist
position is available immediately in the Soybean Genomics and Biotechnology Laboratory
at the University of Missouri. The primary responsibility of this position will
be molecular analysis of transgenic plants for drought tolerance with special
emphasis on soybean root characteristics.
Molecular analysis will include Southern blotting, PCR, and qRT-PCR and
sample preparation including DNA extraction from plant leaf, root, and seed
tissue using high-throughput protocols.
The candidate will assist in the phenotypic evaluations of root system
architecture and root plasticity under drought and normal conditions, plant
water relations, and growth analysis. Along with the laboratory and green house
experiments, the Research Specialist will collect, organize, and analyze
data. They will be required to
maintain a detailed laboratory notebook to record all experimental data
information. Other duties will
include supervision of undergraduate students, help with the daily maintenance
of common laboratory solutions, and general laboratory upkeep. Applicants
should have a B.S. degree in biology, plant science, or a closely related degree
and 1-2 years of experience in molecular techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the
ability to work well in a collaborative research environment are essential. Applicants
