TITLE: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Soybean Breeding and Genetics

 

LOCATION: Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences

University of Arkansas

Fayetteville, AR

 

DURATION: 1-year appointment, renewable annually depending upon availability of grant

funds and satisfactory performance

 

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

 

POSITION AVAIABLE: May 1, 2011 or when a suitable candidate is found

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIES: Design and conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments to identify molecular markers for qualitative and quantitative traits in soybean; evaluate soybean seed composition for food-grade quality attributes; apply marker technology and seed quality standards in selection procedures of the specialty soybean breeding program. The incumbent will also help coordinate daily research activities in the lab and assist with seasonal field planting, harvesting, and seed processing. The candidate should have experience with classical breeding and molecular marker techniques. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing data, and reporting results at professional meetings and in appropriate referred publications.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field, strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrated publication record, and experience with molecular markers/QTLs.
